We need to raise more than £10 million every year to provide Hospice care and support for our local community. If you want to get involved, join one of our fundraising activities, create your own, or make a donation; everything you need is on this page.
Taking part in a charity walk or run is a simple way to support local hospice care. You can walk in memory of someone you love, run with friends, join a workplace team, or take on a personal challenge at your own pace.
For Hospice in the Weald, community fundraising helps us provide free care for adults and children with terminal illness, and those closest to them, across Kent and East Sussex. Every registration, donation and sponsorship pledge helps keep that care available for local families.
If you are thinking about joining a charity walk or run near you, this guide explains how charity walks work, what to expect on the day, and how to raise money for a charity walk in a manageable way.
A charity walk is a fundraising event where people walk a set route to raise money for a cause. Some people take part with family, friends, colleagues, school groups or clubs. Others come on their own and soon find themselves part of a kind, supportive crowd.
Charity walks are not about speed. You do not need to be especially sporty or experienced. The aim is to take part, enjoy the event and raise funds for people in your local community.
Hospice in the Weald’s annual Moonlight Walk is one of our much-loved events. Taking place on Saturday 27th June 2026 from Sevenoaks Rugby Club, it offers 4-mile, 8-mile and 13-mile routes through Knole Park. It is an evening to remember loved ones, share time with others and enjoy a warm welcome at the Event Village afterwards.
Most charity walks follow a simple pattern. You register, choose your route if there is more than one option, set up or personalise your fundraising page, and share it with people who may want to support you.
For Moonlight Walk, your fundraising page is created automatically when you sign up. You can add your own message, explain why you are walking, and share the link with friends, family, colleagues or your wider community. If you are walking as a team, you can also set up a group page.
On the night, you arrive at the Event Village, check in, join the warm-up and begin your route. Moonlight Walk starts with the longer route first, followed by the shorter options. There are opportunities to dedicate a star in memory of a loved one, dress up with glowsticks or sparkles, and walk at a pace that feels right for you.
The easiest way to start is to choose an event from our hospice charity events page. Once you have found the walk or challenge you want to join, follow the registration link and complete your details.
For Moonlight Walk, think about who you would like to walk with, which route is best for you, and whether you are walking in memory of someone. Some people keep things quiet and personal. Others gather a team and make it a night to share. Both are welcome.
If you cannot attend Moonlight Walk, you can still organise your own walk in aid of Hospice in the Weald. Your route might be a local park, a familiar country path, a school field, a workplace challenge or a walk between places connected to someone special. Our fundraising team can offer support and resources to help you get started.
For runners, joggers and first-timers, our annual hospice run event is a chance to challenge yourself while supporting local hospice care. This year marks 20 years of Hospice Run, taking place on Sunday 20th September 2026 at Lower Common Cricket Ground in Tunbridge Wells.
Participants can choose from a 5k, 10k or Half Marathon. The event includes chip-timed results, a finisher’s medal, training support, an Event Village and a closed-road route through Tunbridge Wells. It is suitable for a first race, a return to running, or a new goal with friends.
Hospice in the Weald asks each runner to raise £100. The event page gives examples of what fundraising can help provide, including care sessions for children and support from the therapies team.
Fundraising does not have to be complicated. Start with a short, honest message about why you are taking part. People often give because they know you, understand the cause, or want to remember someone too.
A few simple steps can help:
If you are wondering how to raise money for a charity walk at work, ask whether your employer can share your page, match donations, sponsor a team, or let colleagues take part together. Local businesses can also support community events through sponsorship, donations, raffle prizes or volunteer time.
Comfort matters most. For Moonlight Walk, wear shoes you have already worn in, layers for the evening, and clothing you can move in easily. Bring water, snacks, a torch, a fully charged phone, and a poncho or umbrella if rain is likely. If you are walking in memory of someone, you may also want to bring a photo or small memento.
Glowsticks, bright colours and sparkles are all part of the fun, but they are optional. You should feel comfortable, safe and ready to enjoy the route.
For a charity run, wear your usual running shoes and clothing you have trained in. Try not to wear anything new on event day. Bring any medication you may need, arrive early, and give yourself time to warm up.
Some supporters want to go further. Hospice in the Weald regularly offer more adventurous challenge events and treks including running challenges, community events, workplace fundraising ideas and opportunities to create your own event in aid of the Hospice. You can see what is coming up on our hospice fundraising events page or contact our fundraising team through fundraise for us.
Charity walks and runs give people a way to do something practical, positive and shared. You do not have to be an athlete, or know exactly how fundraising works before you begin. You just need a place to start.
Join us at Moonlight Walk 2026, take on Hospice Run 2026, sign up for a challenge, or create your own fundraiser. However you choose to take part, you will be helping Hospice in the Weald care for people across Kent and East Sussex, and support the families and loved ones around them.
