Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for frequently asked questions about Moonlight Walk.

What time will the walk start and finish?

The first walkers will set off at 7:00pm. We allocate up to 5 hours to complete the route, so please ensure you choose a distance you feel confident you can finish within this time.

Estimated walking times are:

  • 4 miles: approximately 1–2 hours
  • 8 miles: approximately 3–4 hours
  • 12 miles: approximately 4–5 hours

Please note these times are estimates and will vary depending on pace and conditions.

How will we know where we’re going?

Each route will be guided by an experienced Lead Walker, with a Sweep Walker at the back to ensure everyone stays together and no one is left behind. Both walkers are familiar with the route. The route is also lined with marshals who will direct you at key junctions and you will receive the route details in advance, so you can review it before the event.

What should I wear?

As we all know, British weather can be unpredictable! While we’ll be hoping for dry and mild conditions, we recommend:

  • Comfortable trainers or walking boots
  • An extra warm layer
  • A waterproof jacket, just in case

Dressing in layers is ideal, especially as temperatures can drop in the evening.

Where can I park?

Parking at the event village is very limited. Please use nearby public car parks, public transport or walk where possible.

Will refreshments be available?

Yes! Drinks will be available from the Sevenoaks Rugby Club bar and hot drinks will be available in the event village from the Kent Coffee Shack. There will be water available on the route.

Once you complete the Moonlight Walk, you’ll be welcomed back to the event village with a glass of prosecco, or a soft drink alternative.

Is there a Code of Conduct?

Yes. We want everyone to have a great time, so all participants are asked to follow our Code of Conduct to help keep the event safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Drink responsibly– if you choose to drink, please be mindful with alcohol and look out for yourself and others.
  • No littering – use public bins where possible or take rubbish with you and dispose of it in the Event Village.
  • Be considerate with noise – remember we’re sharing the space with local residents, so please be respectful, especially in residential areas in the evening.
  • Stay between the Lead and Sweep Walkers — each group has a Lead Walker at the front and a Sweep Walker at the back to make sure no one gets left behind. Please don’t walk ahead of the Lead or fall behind the Sweep. Both will be wearing hi‑vis and are easy to spot, so just keep yourself between them as we go.

Thank you for helping us create a positive experience for everyone involved!

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! Please do bring along any four-legged friends, we just ask that you keep them on a lead throughout the walk, especially through Knole Park.

Will there be a medal?

After you have completed Moonlight Walk, you will receive a pin badge to celebrate your achievement.

Are there toilets on route?

Yes. There are toilets on the route, including local businesses who will allow people taking part in Moonlight Walk to use their toilets. We will share a list of businesses with our Moonlight Walk participants.

Do I have to raise a minimum sponsorship?

We ask for everyone to commit to raising £100 each. It costs £25,000 a day to run the Hospice and your fundraising plays a huge role in us being able to continue to provide care for people with terminal illness and their loved ones in West Kent and East Sussex.

Is there an age limit for participants?

There is no age limit for participants, but children under 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult participant. We ask that you are mindful when selecting your route that everyone in your party will be able to complete the walk within 5 hours.
