You might be aware that our transformation programme – Shaping our Future – at Hospice in the Weald has begun. Over the next year, we’ll be delivering in-patient services at our hospice in Five Ashes while improving our Pembury Hospice.
While work is underway at Pembury, in-patients will be cared for at the hospice in Five Ashes from mid-November. Ahead of this, improvements have been made at Five Ashes to support those with more complex health needs.
Once complete, in-patient care will continue at both sites, meaning there will be two locations offering the best in-patient care for people in Kent and East Sussex.
The plans to upgrade our Pembury ward are part of a major transformation that will see not only the ward, but all patient areas upgraded. The hospice, which provides free care for adults and children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across Kent and East Sussex, first opened in 1998 and is about to be refurbished to better support patients for years to come.
We are keen to ensure the very best care environments are available to our community. Improvements will be made to the in‑patient ward, reception area, spiritual care rooms, and Living Well centre, ensuring these spaces are calm, modern, uplifting environments. The hospice in Pembury will remain open throughout the work to welcome those accessing Living Well services, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
During the refurbishment, Counselling and Support services are being offered at Hawkwell Business Centre nearby. Outreach services and home visits for children and young people will run as normal, with additional community-based appointments as needed. Artists’ impressions have now been released, giving a first glimpse at how the in-patient ward at the hospice on Maidstone Road will look. Find out more below.
The ward at Pembury has 15 individual rooms for symptom control and end of life care. We offer personalised care to suit each patient’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs, as well as caring for and supporting those important to the patient. This might be family members, or friends.
Without seeing it for yourself, it can be difficult to imagine what our In-Patient Ward is like. It’s often described by patients and their loved ones as a calm, tranquil and peaceful place to be – almost a haven. Some rooms face out onto beautiful apple orchards, whilst others open into our stunning Hospice gardens and all have their own en-suite bathroom. We will always be flexible and accommodating for each family, whatever their needs.
The In-Patient Ward team is made up of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Nurses, Specialty Doctors, Consultants, Hospice Paramedics and Nursing Assistants.
We offer a wide range of services to help make living with a terminal illness easier and more comfortable. We treat everyone as individuals to help find what works for you and help you make the right choices.
Counselling is an opportunity to help you find ways of coping with change and face the challenging effects of loss. It is a chance to share and explore feelings or experiences that you may not feel able to share with family or friends.
Nestled in Five Ashes, with a backdrop of the rolling East Sussex landscape, Cottage Hospice offers 24/7 end-of-life care to patients with non-complex needs as well as providing support for family and loved ones.
Our team supporting people in their own homes. Hospice Outreach Service is a team of specialists who work closely with your GP, District Nurses and other Healthcare Professionals to support you & your family and help co-ordinate palliative care at home.
