Transformation programme updates for health professionals

We’re undertaking a major transformation programme to enhance our care environments and strengthen the services we provide, ensuring we continue to deliver outstanding palliative and end‑of‑life care across Kent and East Sussex.

These improvements will modernise our clinical spaces, support safer and more flexible models of care, and ensure our hospice remains fit for purpose for the decades ahead.

What this means for you and your patients

Improved clinical environments

Refurbishment of our Pembury hospice includes:

  • In‑patient ward upgrades — modernised rooms, improved layouts, and enhanced facilities designed to support comfort, dignity, and clinical effectiveness
  • Reception and Living Well Centre enhancements — creating a more accessible, welcoming environment for patients and families
  • Dedicated spiritual care spaces — purpose‑built areas for reflection, support, and personalised care
  • Improved counselling, outpatient, and clinic rooms — enabling seamless transitions between services and more flexible approaches to care

These updates will create calm, modern, therapeutic settings that better support symptom management, family involvement, and multidisciplinary working.

Why this work is essential

Our current ward and ground‑floor clinical areas are no longer fit for purpose and require significant repair. By refurbishing now and doing so comprehensively we are:

  • Ensuring safe, modern clinical environments
  • Reducing future maintenance costs
  • Improving energy efficiency through measures such as solar panel installation
  • Protecting the long‑term sustainability of hospice services

This approach represents the best value for money and reduces the likelihood of further disruption in future years.

Continuity of care

All services remain available throughout the transformation:

  • In‑patient care will temporarily relocate to our hospice in Five Ashes
  • Counselling and support services will operate from alternate venues
  • Living Well remains at our site in Pembury located in a different part of the building
  • Referral pathways and clinical advice lines remain unchanged
  • Community services from our Outreach team continue as normal

We are committed to ensuring smooth transitions and maintaining high‑quality care throughout the programme.

Operational information for professionals

  • Referral criteria remain the same
  • Clinical advice lines are fully operational
  • Transport and visiting arrangements will be communicated directly to families
  • We will continue to share updates on timelines, service locations, and any operational changes

If you have patients currently under our care, we will contact you directly if any adjustments are required.
