We need to raise more than £10 million every year to provide Hospice care and support for our local community. If you want to get involved, join one of our fundraising activities, create your own, or make a donation; everything you need is on this page.
A huge thank you to everyone who ran, cheered, volunteered, fundraised and sponsored this year’s Hospice Run. Together you made our 20th anniversary event the biggest and most successful in our history.
Close to 1,000 people joined us in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday to take part in our 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Family Fun routes, helping to raise an incredible £170,000 so far for Hospice in the Weald, with donations still coming in.
The event was made even more special by the wonderful atmosphere created by our supporters, from seasoned runners from local clubs to first timers and families who donned superhero costumes for our fun run.
Many were running in memory of loved ones and to thank the hospice for the care their families have received. Among them were sisters Evie Hawes and Verity, who, together with their husbands, covered an impressive 73 kilometres in memory of their father Tony, who was cared for by Hospice in the Weald 10 years ago.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to remember our dad while supporting the amazing charity that is Hospice in the Weald,” said Evie. “They provided our dad and family with such incredible care and support when we really needed it back in 2016 and continue to do so for many other families today.”
The event welcomed newcomers such as Deborah Spencer, who only recently took up running and completed the 5k route with fellow members of Beginners to Runners, to support the hospice in recognition of the “amazing” care provided to her mum.
Familiar faces were welcomed back, including long-term supporters David Morgan, Andy Knight and Sophia Baguley, who have taken part for many years, along with members of the Tunbridge Wells Harriers and Oaks Blokes running groups.
David Morgan, who has been instrumental in the success of Hospice Run, said: “Having run the first Hospice Run in 2006 I am so pleased to still be supporting this fantastic event that raises vital funds for Hospice in the Weald. I love running, and our local hospice so it’s a win-win.”
Katie Greywood, Director of Income Generation at Hospice in the Weald, said: “Our community truly pulled out all the stops to mark the 20th anniversary of Hospice Run. The incredible turnout, fundraising and support we saw throughout the day was simply amazing. We are so grateful to everyone who played a part in making this year such a success.
“Thanks to everyone’s fundraising efforts, boosted by generous match funding from the Freddie Green and Family Charitable Foundation, we have raised a record breaking £170,000 so far, with donations still coming in! Every pound raised helps us continue providing compassionate care and support to those who need us most.”
We were delighted to welcome BBC weather presenter Elizabeth Rizzini as our special guest to help mark this incredible milestone. After sharing words of encouragement at the start line, Elizabeth laced up her trainers and completed the 5k route in support of the hospice, a cause close to her heart.
Elizabeth said: “This is a cause that means a huge amount to me and my family. A family member, who was full of life and joy, was cared for by Hospice in the Weald, allowing her to have a peaceful death, surrounded by love at home, where she wanted to be. I am here today to help raise awareness about just how great this place is. It’s a great atmosphere; the hills are tough, but everyone cheers you on and the Samba Band keeps you going. I’d encourage everyone to sign up for next year!”
We are also grateful to the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells Beverley Palmer, who came along to lend her support, officiating the start of the 5k route and handing out medals to participants.
Hospice Run 2027 will take place on Sunday 19th September 2027 from Lower Common Cricket Ground, Tunbridge Wells.
