For the team at Savills in Tunbridge Wells, Hospice Run has become a much-loved part of the year; bringing colleagues, families and the wider community together in support of Hospice in the Weald for an incredible 20 years. Here, members of the Savills team share their memories of Hospice Run and why they have chosen to sponsor and support the event right from the very first race in 2006…
“For Savills, Hospice in the Weald has helped and touched the lives of our clients, our colleagues, our own friends, our own families, and it is just such a vital part of the local community. What I love is that we support on paper, but of course, we are also at Hospice Run in our trainers on the day too,” shares Natasha, Director at Savills in Tunbridge Wells.
“Hospice Run is such a vital part of the Wealden community. It gives so much help, comfort, care, and support in truly the most difficult and darkest of times. A lot of people would be surprised by how much the Hospice has helped people that they know. It’s so important that we continue to support them,” she says.
Robert, Head of Office in the same branch, continues: “The important thing is that people do what they can to help the community. If you like running and you’re a regular runner, then you should definitely come on the day and sign up. It gives us a chance to give something back.
“The buzz from race day is incredible. Right to the point where we’re all packing up and clearing. You definitely come home on a high. There’s something about it that makes us want to come back every year, and we talk to our colleagues about it in the office and encourage people to come. My son will be running this year, too. Everyone has that same feeling that it’s a great event,” Robert adds.
Reflecting on her favourite Hospice Run memories over the years, Natasha shares: “A Hospice Run memory that stands out for me is one of our very rare rainy days! We have been so lucky over 20 years to have had fabulous weather, but there was one very grizzly Sunday.
“It’s always a very early start, but the Savills team all got together to be there on a Sunday morning. We were looking forward to running, feeling the adrenaline building up, but being a bit nervous about the weather, wondering if there was going to be a good turnout. We were walking around the corner carrying the bananas and the water and everything else, and we saw floods and floods of people turning up.
“Hospice Run means so much to so many people, and that was just totally reflected in everyone getting on with it despite the heavy rain and all the volunteers still showing up in their wellies,” she adds.
Natasha concludes, looking back on the growth of Hospice Run and its significance in the local community. “It’s so important for people to support Hospice Run. What’s amazing to me is that we’ve watched it grow as an event and have seen it become a genuine, talked-about fixture in the local running calendar.
“The guys at the Hospice have done an incredible job and have put a lot of effort in to make the 20th anniversary of Hospice Run the biggest and best event yet. I will definitely be one of the last few people over the finish line, but I’m looking forward to it as it is a really happy, fun occasion.”
