The London Landmarks Half Marathon is taking place on 12th April, and our incredible participants are gearing up to run in support of Hospice in the Weald. Get to know some of the runners, as they share what taking part means to them!
“I’m running my first half marathon in loving memory of my amazing grandad, who we very sadly lost to cancer last year. The Hospice cared for him in his final days, with such compassion and dignity, supporting us all through an incredibly difficult time. This run is my way of honouring his life and saying a heartfelt thank you for the incredible support the Hospice gives to families like ours every single day.”
“Having recently cared for a good friend’s mum, we know what a special place Hospice in the Weald is, and how important it is for them to secure the funding needed to provide such a high level of care. We wanted to do our bit and can’t wait to run LLHM2026 with #TeamWeald. See you on the start line!”
“I’m taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Hospice in the Weald. This is a charity that means a lot to me personally. When my nan needed end-of-life care, I saw first-hand the incredible support they provide, not just to patients but to their families as well. It made a difficult time so much more manageable, and it’s something I’ll always be grateful for. After that experience, I knew I wanted to give something back and support the amazing work they do.”
“I am in awe of the people that work at the Hospice as I have experienced first-hand what an incredible job everyone does there. My nan passed away in the Hospice in 2006 and everybody was so kind; nothing was too much, and it felt like no one ever invaded our time that we had left with her.
“I am eternally grateful and would love to be able to repay this gratitude by helping to raise funds so that other families can experience some comfort in the peaceful surroundings of the Hospice and access the support many need whilst dealing with the passing of their loved ones.” – Sarah
“Then in 2020 we lost Mum. The day that she died, she was due to be transferred to the Hospice. A wonderful nurse arrived twenty minutes after Mum peacefully passed away at home. She was amazing, she made everything so much easier for us as we were unable to find the DNR. She made all the necessary phone calls which allowed us to spend more time with Mum.”
“Yas and I are running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of my dad, to raise money for Hospice in the Weald who provided him with such compassion and care when it mattered most. Every step is for him and the families the Hospice continue to support.”
“Millie and I are running in memory of Grandpa Ian, who recieved the best possible end of life care from Hospice in the Weald. We are forever grateful for the work the Hospice does, to provide families and loved ones with support through very difficult times”
“We are running for Hospice in the Weald as the home care team were amazing when I was nursing my mum Christine at home, anything we needed there was always someone there at the end of the phone. The support for us as a family was amazing too. Thank you very much Hospice in the Weald for everything you did for us!”
