Could you help shape the future of Hospice in the Weald?

Hospice in the Weald is seeking up to four new Trustees to join its Board and help guide the charity through an exciting new chapter.

For more than 40 years, Hospice in the Weald has been providing specialist care and support for people living with terminal and life-limiting illnesses across West Kent and East Sussex. Every day, our teams help patients and those important to them navigate some of life’s most challenging moments, whether that’s in their own home, in our Hospice, or through our Living Well services.

As several long-serving Trustees come to the end of their terms, we are looking for new people to bring their expertise, fresh perspectives and passion to our Board.

This is a unique opportunity to use your professional skills to make a lasting difference to local people and communities.

An exciting time to get involved

The Hospice is entering a period of significant opportunity and transformation. We are developing our strategy for 2027 and beyond, continuing to strengthen our services, and progressing our Shaping Our Future programme to ensure we can meet the changing needs of our communities for generations to come.

Working alongside fellow Trustees, the Executive Team and our new Chair of Trustees, successful candidates will help shape strategic direction, provide constructive challenge and support, and ensure the Hospice remains sustainable, effective and true to its values.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of professional backgrounds and experiences.

In particular, we are keen to hear from individuals with expertise in:

  • Finance and financial leadership
  • People and culture
  • Commercial strategy and business growth
  • Income generation and diversification
  • Technology and digital transformation

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential. What matters most is a commitment to our purpose, strong strategic thinking, sound judgement and a desire to contribute to the future of hospice care in our community. We are also committed to building a diverse Board that reflects the communities we serve and encourages applications from people whose perspectives and experiences are currently underrepresented.

What does the role involve?

Our Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Hospice in the Weald remains strong, sustainable and able to deliver high-quality care for those who need it most.

The Board is responsible for setting the organisation’s strategic direction, overseeing good governance, safeguarding the charity’s assets and reputation, and supporting the Executive Team in delivering against our ambitions. The role is voluntary, although reasonable pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Trustees attend:

  • Four Board meetings each year in Pembury
  • Two Board committees, each meeting four times annually
  • An annual strategy away day
  • The Hospice AGM

Appointments are made for an initial three-year term, with the possibility of a further term.

Make a difference with your skills

Becoming a Trustee is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a new and rewarding way while helping ensure local people continue to receive outstanding care and support when they need it most.

If you are motivated by purpose, collaboration and the chance to help shape the future of an organisation that touches thousands of lives each year, we would love to hear from you.
