With the buzzing crowds and the beauty of the city as its backdrop, London Marathon 2026 was nothing short of extraordinary!
Nine incredible runners took part in support of Hospice in the Weald, raising over £30,000 through their dedication and commitment.
All the gruelling training had been in the colder months, with long runs in winter, early mornings, and juggling other commitments to get ready for the big day – a testament to the support of our wonderful community.
Amid the electric atmosphere and soaring temperatures on the day, our runners showed strength, resilience and heart; each with their own reason for taking this enormous challenge on as part of #TeamWeald.
Ben took part in memory of his mum, Josie, who he sadly lost to cancer. “It was a devastating time filled with uncertainty, but amidst the chaos, Hospice in the Weald became a source of comfort, compassion, and unwavering support. They helped guide us through the hardest of times – and I’ll always be grateful for the dignity and peace they brought during such a difficult thing you never think you’ll have to go through. So, to be able to help raise funds to support the incredible work the Hospice continues to do is a real honour,” he explained.
James, whose uncle, Pat, benefitted from hospice care, said: “I’m proud to be running the London Marathon to raise money for Hospice in the Weald and all the great work they do. My uncle Pat benefitted greatly from a hospice towards the end of his life, and I will be running in his memory.”
Natalie’s dad loved running before he died, and she took the marathon on in his memory, knowing this would push her across the finish line. “I’m running in memory of my running-obsessed dad, who we lost to cancer just under two years ago. The Hospice in the Weald team provided the most incredible care for him and helped us as a family in the toughest time of our lives. Running the marathon for the amazing Hospice is the perfect tribute to him, and I know he’ll be running with me every step of the way,” Natalie shared.
Adam and Cam chose to fly the flag for #TeamWeald to ensure that patients and their loved ones supported by the Hospice receive care and support when they need it most.
“I’m running to help people live their lives fully right to the end and support their families through their loss,” said Adam.
Cam added: “I’m running the London Marathon to give back to Hospice in the Weald, who support families through life’s hardest moments.”
Callum saw the impact of hospice care when his uncle received support at the end of his life. “I’m running for Hospice in the Weald after seeing the incredible impact hospice care had on my uncle’s final days. They provide 24/7 medical and emotional support that the NHS doesn’t fund – I’m running to ensure other families get that same vital care,” he shared.
Penny, Relationship Fundraising Assistant, concluded: “Our team were there all the way to support our amazing runners on this fabulous journey and achievement. Setting up a cheer station at mile 22 with an opportunity to see them and cheer loudly at the mile 13 marker as well.
“Supporting the water station with local athletics club Paddock Wood, the volunteers gave over and above to make sure our runners felt part of the Hospice family and fully supported. Every runner was cheered, clapped and celebrated.
“Every mile made a difference, and every donation means so much. Thank you for being part of something truly special, donating, and choosing to run in support of Hospice in the Weald.”
