Spring Love Your Labels Lock-in: The impact of our charity shop events

Recently, our Spring Love Your Labels Lock-in took place at our Tonbridge Superstore, bringing our supporters an affordable way to shop for their favourite brands, whilst making a genuine difference.

The care and support we provide would not be possible without the income from our shops, and by attending the event, you helped us raise an incredible £8,502.50.

The afternoon was buzzing with activity, with a queue of eager shoppers lining up to get first pick of designer and high-end high street brand items, available for both men and women, with Priority Entry Ticket holders having an extra hour of shopping without the crowds.

The impact of funds

Joanna, who has been volunteering for five years, shared: “We are really fortunate that lots of our lovely supporters bring us amazing donations. All of this is designer wear, and it also gives people the opportunity to recycle and buy some items that they might not be able to afford.

“I enjoy being a volunteer. All the money raised goes to such a worthwhile charity that needs our support more than ever before, with the amount of funding we get from the government. We need every single shop to be making as much money as possible.

“The team also make it fun, we have a laugh, and there’s lots of camaraderie.”

Joy and teamwork

Kevin, Shop Manager at the Tonbridge Superstore, continued: “Coming to events like Love Your Labels helps raise much-needed funds for people supported by Hospice in the Weald.

“There is a lot of hard work that goes into it from staff and volunteers, a lot of hours, but it all pays off because we have an amazing evening and raise a lot of money.

“I like seeing people happy, shopping and buying high-quality merchandise. When you come to a Love Your Labels event, you can expect to find anything from high-end high-street items, new clothes with tags which have never been worn, great quality designer labels, and all at reasonable prices.”

Sustainable fashion

Sofia, a shopper who came along in search of bargains, said: “I went to this event last year because my friend told me about it, and ever since then I’ve been keeping up to see when it would happen again. So, this is my second time!

“Charity shopping is great, of course, price-wise, you can get great things and expensive labels for cheaper, especially at these sorts of events. But also, I do try to thrift as much as possible and not buy new from a sustainability perspective. So, this is a win-win.

“Sustainable fashion is really important because so much waste comes from clothing and textiles, and so much fast fashion is produced every single day that we don’t need. A lot of it doesn’t even get recycled because it’s made of plastic. Why bother with that when there is so much choice these days? Charity shops and events like these, thrifting, upcycling – there are endless options to buy things that are also better quality and cheaper and make you feel less guilty.”

Events like Love Your Labels Lock-in are essential for raising funds that help us be there for people facing terminal illnesses and their loved ones. Every penny makes a difference.
