Shaping our Future: Meet our contractors

Refurbishment work is well underway at our Pembury Hospice as part of our ‘Shaping our Future’ transformation programme!

Get to know some of the Coxdown team and subcontractors, as they share what they enjoy about working on the project and the impact it will have on patients, loved ones, and wider workforce at Hospice in the Weald…

Bringing the project to life

Jamie is a Senior Site Manager for the project and enjoys a challenge as well as leading a team.

“The thing I like most about my job is the challenge of completing the project and interacting with the team to provide a good end finish for everyone. I want everyone to be happy with it,” he explains.

“It’s going to be a much nicer, lighter space where families can come together when it’s needed,” Jamie adds, thinking about the final result.

Ashley, a plumbing contractor, and Brian, a general builder, both agree that the refurbishment will have a positive impact on everyone who receives care and support at the Pembury Hospice. “I have a great passion for what I do; I enjoy every bit of it. This project is a very good opportunity to provide something for people in their time of need. Everything is going to be very modern, very fresh, and of the highest quality,” says Ashley.

Brian continues: “It’s a role that gives me a wide variety of work, and because of the people I meet every day, it’s good fun! I like to see the progress that’s being made every day, and then at the end of the week, seeing all the work that we’ve done. We are delivering a much-improved space for the patients and families coming here.”

Spaces that make a difference

For April, a painter and decorator, the project is the biggest she has worked on so far, which she finds exciting. April shares: “I love working outside, especially when the weather is nice. It’s enjoyable to see the progress; a very quick pay out for the work that you put in.

“This is the biggest job that I have worked on so far in my painting career. So, I’m really excited to see how it all comes together at the end. For me personally, it’s been really nice to work on this project because I’m working towards providing a calm and nice space for people who are going through a really tough time.

“If any bit of work that I’m working on now can give someone more comfort in their time of need, then I think that’s really special,” she adds.

Nick, a digger driver, likes the scale of the project and the difference it will make when complete. “It’s quite a nice project to get our teeth into. From what I’ve seen of the designs, I think that the patient’s days are going to be much more comfortable,” he concludes.
