A grand opening 🎉

The event was kicked off by the Mayor of Tonbridge, who cut a ribbon at the door, chatted with shoppers and volunteers, and even signed up for a Your Hospice Card.

The Mayor said: “Hospice in the Weald is one of the two charities that I’m supporting this year as Mayor, and I’m very pleased to be here today to open their first ever Summer Love Your Labels Lock-in. Tonight’s event, taking place at their new shop on the high street, the Tonbridge Superstore, has attracted a lot of people.

“Following on from the popularity of the Sevenoaks event, we’re all hoping tonight will be a success and raise plenty of money, whilst encouraging people to reuse, recycle, and upcycle donations that have been made. It’s great to be here, and I hope the tills are ringing all the way to 9 o’clock!”

Grace, a shopper who was joined by her friend, Chantel, had positive things to say about the impact of shopping pre-loved. “I’m having lots of fun searching through all the rails. We’ve both got baskets full of stuff. Lots of good labels and brands that we recognise. It’s nice knowing that it’s going to a good cause, a good charity. I picked up a Levi’s shirt and found a little Topshop number. It’s all affordable and good quality,” she shared.

“Charity shopping is important because it’s a way of giving back. I like that it doesn’t just go to someone’s random pocket or a big corporate company that already makes a lot of money. I like the idea that if I’m paying for something, it’s doing good,” added Chantel.

The power of pre-loved 🛍️

Friends Anu and Lily enjoyed an evening of shopping and socialising together, whilst discovering brands like Mulberry, Ralph Lauren, and Karen Millen, among others.

“Our friend volunteers here and she told us about the event, it’s amazing. I hope they keep doing it in Tonbridge. I’ve already paid for my items but I’m still finding more things I want to buy,” said Anu.

“Second-hand shopping is good for the environment and good for the charity. I bought some items, and I see it as making an £85 donation to Hospice in the Weald, as are all these people queuing to buy things. It’s a win win and why I think charity shopping is brilliant,” added Lily.

Nicky, who came along in search of designer goodies, said: “I’ve been looking forward to it all week. It’s a really well-run event. There’s just so much clothes wastage throughout the world and I think charity shopping is the way forward. I’ve picked up a Calvin Klein bargain, managed to get a Timberland top, and also seen some Prada going around. Hospice in the Weald is such an amazing charity, nobody knows when they’re going to need hospice care. It’s valuable to everybody.”

Jemma, Commercial Office Manager, who organised the event along with other staff members and volunteers, concluded: “The event was a fantastic success. It was truly heartwarming to see so many shoppers enjoying the evening. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make it happen – we couldn’t have done it without you, and we look forward to welcoming you at our next Love Your Labels event on 25th September at our Sevenoaks High Street Shop!”
