Hospice raises more than £400,000 in 36-hour campaign

Thanks to all our amazing supporters who raised more than £400,000 in our Every Moment Counts 36-hour fundraising campaign.

We launched the campaign at 9am on Sunday with the ambitious goal of raising £400,000 by 9pm on Monday. Thanks to everyone’s incredible support – with 1,380 of you making donations – we smashed our target reaching an incredible total of £406,750 as the clock struck 9pm.

Hospice in the Weald provides free care for adults and children with terminal illness or life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones across Kent and East Sussex.  Dedicated teams care for and support people in their own homes and at the charity’s hospices in Pembury and Five Ashes.

Alison Mitchell, the Hospice’s Fundraising Director, said: “We truly have the greatest supporters, many of whom helped raise incredible amounts from friends, family, colleagues and communities.

“This was the first time we’d run a campaign like this, so it was a little nerve-wracking, but nerves turned to excitement as we saw all the live donations coming in and mounting up.

“Thanks to some very generous supporters, this was a matched campaign which meant all donations were doubled. Words cannot express how grateful we are, thank you.

“We called our campaign Every Moment Counts because time is precious, even more so for those facing a terminal illness and their families. This phenomenal amount will help us continue caring for adults and children facing terminal illnesses so they can spend more time with their loved ones when it matters most.”

Many who supported the campaign include the loved ones of people cared for by the Hospice. Ian Glascott, from Horsemonden, rallied his family and friends to raise a staggering £11,395 for Every Moment Counts in memory of his wife Marion.

Ian said: “I lost my beautiful wife Marion to cancer in February 2023. Marion’s passion for life was immense as was her love of Hospice in the Weald.

“The love, care, and empathy we and our family received from the Hospice was, and still is, inspiring.

“Marion spent many lovely days at the Hospice with our family making memories and taking up the therapies and counselling on offer. Our time at ‘Living Well’ together was always a joy.

“The Hospice team continues to help me and my family try to come to terms with our devastating loss. We supported Every Moment Counts in Marion’s memory as we want to do our best to support and raise money for this amazing charity.”
