From 6-12 October, Hospice Care Week will spotlight the incredible work of hospices and their dedicated staff. This week is a chance for hospices to collectively shine a light on how we work to ensure that patients and their loved ones have access to the care they need and deserve at end of life. Hospice UK, a national charity advocating for hospice care, will be leading the way by sharing stories, campaigning, and uniting the hospice sector.
This year’s theme is ‘hospice care is more than you think’. At Hospice in the Weald, our dedicated staff work tirelessly to ensure the people on our ward are supported and cared for, alongside those closest to them. But some people might not be aware that hospice care goes beyond in-patient support and symptom management.
Hospice care is about making everyday moments possible, like enjoying a trip to the beach, gardening on the weekend, or visiting a friend for a coffee. For example every year, community nurses and volunteers make 1.4 million visits to support people at the end of life, helping them stay out of hospital and spend precious time where they feel most comfortable – at home.
The Hospice cares for our community, offering help and support in a variety of ways to patients and their loved ones. Our teams make an extraordinary difference to people’s lives, helping to make every day the best possible for adults and children living with a terminal or life threatening illness. Your support helps make all that possible, whether it be through donating, shopping, or volunteering. Thank you for your continued support.
