It was a wonderful day in the Hospice gardens on 14th August, as eight families supported by Hospice in the Weald for Children attended our Teddy Bear Picnic! With the sun shining, children and young people had their faces painted, played with bubbles, listened to live music and even had special balloons made for them by a balloonist.
Water sensory play with hook a duck was popular, as was the sand tray, lucky dip and raffle for all who attended. Later, the children joined teddies scattered around the garden to enjoy tasty picnic food, refreshments, and ice cream whilst getting a visit from a life size teddy bear!
“We just wanted to say the biggest thank you. The effort you all went to was incredible and our son had the time of his life. The support that you provide for our family is amazing and we are so grateful, thank you so much,” shared a parent who attended.
The event enabled children and young people to interact with each other and do things that they might otherwise not be able to do, but it also gave parents and guardians facing similar challenges a chance to socialise.
All activities were expertly planned by our children’s team to be safe, inclusive and accessible whilst offering plenty of opportunity for fun and play.
Hayley, Children’s Healthcare Assistant, said: “It was an amazing day, the children’s healthcare team worked hard planning and organising the event. We were very grateful for the support we also received from the active support team and catering. These events do not just happen overnight, but they are made all the more worthwhile when we see the joy and happiness brought to the children, young people, and families that attend.
“We have plenty of exciting things coming up including a coffee morning on 4th October, a transition morning on 1st November, and an engagement lunch on 19th September for all of our parents and carers, so that we can gain essential and valuable feedback to develop and grow our services.” Thank you to all the families who came along, and we look forward to welcoming you to more events in the future!
