Anne has been buying our Christmas cards for 20 years. Here, she shares her story, explaining why she’s been choosing to support Hospice in the Weald for such a remarkable amount of time…
“My late sister, Laura, was cared for by Hospice in the Weald in 2005 before she passed away from cancer. Prior to that, the Hospice helped advise the private hospital at Fordcombe, where my sister was being treated before her transfer to Pembury.
“A room was made available to the family when my sister was admitted, and they also provided James, my brother-in-law (my sister’s husband), with counselling after my sister had passed.
“Due to this experience, I became aware that hospices need to fundraise the majority of their income; and so, I’ve been buying Hospice in the Weald’s Christmas cards for 20 years, ever since my sister died.
“Buying Christmas cards helps to support the Hospice and continue the invaluable support to patients and their families, as well as providing vital outpatient support to the community too.”
“Having grown up in the days before the internet, Christmas cards were a key way to wish family and friends the compliments of the season. I also use them to keep in touch with friends I don’t get to see very often. I particularly think the elderly appreciate receiving them.
“However, Christmas cards are so much more than that, by sending them to friends and family, it raises awareness of Hospice in the Weald. I continue to buy them every year to enable the Hospice to continue to provide support to those who need it, and in a small way, repay the support we received.
“My favourite card this year is ‘Santa and Robin’, as it reminds me of when we were little and my mum used to tell us that the Robins reported to Santa on which children had been behaving!”
If you haven’t yet had a chance to order your Christmas cards, you can still do so here and make a lasting difference to patients and their loved ones at Hospice in the Weald, this festive season, and beyond.
