Why Walk on Fire?

A Firewalk is an unforgettable challenge that pushes your limits, builds confidence, and supports Hospice in the Weald with every step.

Before the walk, participants take part in an hour of training with expert UK FIREWALK instructors. Once the embers are ready, the coals are raked flat and participants remove their footwear before walking across the fire one at a time.

Many describe the sensation as walking on eggshells or warm sand and most walkers report no pain. Some even choose to cross more than once!

As with any activity involving fire, there is some risk, which is why following the trainer’s guidance and safety instructions is essential. Proper procedures ensure the experience is as safe as possible.

What You Need to Know

  • No special preparation is required. No foot treatments or mental exercises. Everything you need will be covered during the training session.
  • Please avoid alcohol or drugs before the event. Anyone deemed unfit to participate by the trainer will not be permitted to take part.
  • Wear comfortable, casual clothing. Fire can be messy so clothes may pick up ash.
  • Choose footwear that’s easy to remove and consider bringing a small towel. Flip‑flops are useful if the ground is cold.
  • Nail varnish and toe rings are absolutely fine.

Every step across the embers helps us provide compassionate care for patients and families across our community. Your courage directly fuels our care.

Dare to do something extraordinary. Join us for the Hospice in the Weald Firewalk!
