Counselling & Support Service
The Hospice in the Weald Counselling & Support Service offers counselling free of charge to patients, their families and carers.
We provide counselling to patients while they are staying on the In-Patient Ward or attending the Hospice Day Service, as well as when they are under the care of Hospice at Home. Our counsellors are members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and are trained to work with adults individually, in couples or in groups. We also provide counselling for children related to patients receiving hospice care.
We are one of the winners of the BACP 2012 Adapting Counselling and Psychotherapy Services Award. The Counselling & Support Service practices in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy's ethical framework. Our counsellors attend regular supervision as a professional requirement to ensure they are working competently and ethically.
Patients and family members and carers can contact us directly if they are interested in counselling and would like to find out more. Any healthcare professional involved in a patient's care who becomes aware of a need for psychological support might suggest making a referral to the Counselling & Support Service. If this is agreed by the patient or family member, that healthcare professional will contact us. When we receive the referral we will get in touch with the patient or family member to arrange a meeting.
The Counselling & Support Service is led by a Head of Service, Paul Madden.
