Moonlight Walk Success
A staggering 756 walkers took part in Hospice in the Weald’s Moonlight Walk on Saturday evening. Starting from the Vine Gardens in Sevenoaks, with Strictly’s Len Goodman setting the walkers off at 7pm.
Families and friends marched and strolled the 8-mile route through Knole Park, many walking in memory of loved ones cared for by the Hospice. Families took part with dogs on leads and children in buggies, including Sarah and Nick, from Maidstone, who have completed the Moonlight Walk this year for their sixth consecutive year. Sarah said: “What a fantastic night Saturday was. Despite the weathers best endeavours everyone’s enthusiasm for such a great event could not be dampened. We both enjoyed every minute, even the first 3 miles in the rain! The walk is for such a great cause supporting and helping many families. We will definitely be signing up again next year.”
With a popular strawberry stop and other refreshments available on the route, walkers spirits were high despite the grey weather, motivated by their fundraising efforts. The event raised £53,000 for the Hospice, with many supporters fundraising in memory of their loved ones. With Moonlight Walk T-shirts and a selfie stop complete with wigs and glasses along the way, supporters finished the picturesque walk in between 2 and 4 hours.
Michelle Winstone, Relationship Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: “the support for this event is fantastic – the atmosphere was brilliant and all of our supporters have done so well with their fundraising. Every penny they raise will help local patients in need of end of life care. The Moonlight Walk is becoming a real calendar staple and we are already finding ways to make next year’s event even bigger and better.”
