Euro Trek Fundraisers Return for Christmas
Hospice in the Weald’s fundraisers Ollie and Hannah have celebrated their return from their trek across Europe just in time for Christmas. The two set-off on July 27th and travelled across 28 different European countries in 104 days, in an old 1989 Austin Mini Mayfair, nick-named Jessica, to fundraise for Hospice in the Weald.
Despite the odds, and a few quick fixes and pit stops along the way, Jessica the Mini managed to complete the trip, raising over £1,000 so far with donations still coming in.
The couple were inspired to fundraise after Hospice in the Weald cared for Ollie's father, Arnold.
Arnold died just 3 months after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, but the care he received at Hospice in the Weald had a long and lasting effect on Ollie, who decided to fundraise to ensure others can access ‘the most wonderful care, free of charge’ he remembers.
The trip included stops at Christmas markets across Europe, and testing snowy conditions for the Mini through Finland, ending with one last mishap as the car ran out of fuel just after returning to the UK, on the final leg of their journey. Ollie and Hannah have made memories of a lifetime through their fundraising adventure, truly reflecting part of the Hospice’s strapline: celebrating life.
