Home Support Volunteers

Who is a Home Support volunteer?

Home Support volunteers are carefully selected individuals who offer social and practical help in your home. The volunteers support and complement the clinical care provided by the Hospice.

What does support include?

  • Social support at home if you live alone
  • Carer support for families who need respite time
  • Direct support for you as a carer who may need volunteer support
  • Transport to appointments if needed
  • Time out for a coffee, walk or other visit
  • Light shopping
  • Other practical tasks as agreed with volunteer

Is there anything a Home Support volunteer cannot currently help with?

A Home Support volunteer can’t:

  • Do any heavy lifting or moving
  • Administer medication, but they will help with self medication

How often would a Home Support volunteer visit?

If desired, a volunteer will be allocated to you and will arrange an introductory visit on a mutually convenient day. A volunteer may visit once a week or fortnight for a couple of hours but this is arranged locally between yourself and the volunteer.
