When
someone is facing an illness of any sort, what is
vitally important to the patient and family is Information.
Information about:
The illness itself
Possible treatments and management of the condition
Help and support that might be available
Many of us know the experience of hearing the diagnosis,
and then afterwards feeling so confused that we forget
all that we were told. Or perhaps, being diagnosed
with an unfamiliar condition, we are no further forward.
Others may have been caring for a family member or
friend who is unwell, but feel completely alone with
no practical or emotional support and no idea of whether
any such support exists.
A Health Information service is provided by Hospice
in the Weald at the Hospice in Pembury. It is a free
and confidential service providing medically written
information in easy-to-read format on all issues
of health, illness and disability. There is no need
for medical referral, it is open to all, public and
health professionals and covers a wide range of topics
from childhood illnesses to conditions of older people.
There are many websites offering medical information; the links below will take you to sites that offer reliable and up-to-date information. If you would like help to access these sites or someone to talk to about information you find, contact the Health Information service.
