The Hospice has an Education Department, which plays an important part in providing training and staff development to professionals working both in Palliative care or in other generic settings. The philosophy is to support and enable practitioners to understand the palliative care needs of their patients through their own education and practice.

The Palliative Care Education Programme for District and Community Nurses is a collaborative project with the Kent Cancer Network and Kent Hospices.

Most of the speakers are members of the Hospice's multiprofessional team who have a wide range of experience and expertise in Palliative care.

Facilities Available
The library maintains books and journals relating to Cancer , Palliative Care and other issues related to health care and professional development. Membership is available to all staff, course members and employers of the SouthWest Kent Primary Care Trust. Others may use the library on a reference only basis subject to the agreement of the Education staff.

There is a dedicated computer available for literature searching and access to internet sites, prearranged assistance will be given if needed.

Seminar facilities are provided for up to 40 people in comfortable, modern surroundings. Meeting rooms are well equipped with the latest technology for presentations such as PowerPoint. There is free parking and excellent catering amenities available.

All the rooms and equipment can be hired out for meetings and study sessions. Please contact the Education Department by email or telephone 01892 820517 for further details.

The Education Department is always pleased to give talks and presentations to outside organisations.
