The role of the Day Therapy Centre is, with the support
of a multi disciplinary
team, to provide a centre
focussed around holistic care offering a balance between
therapeutic input, solace, spiritual care and emotional
support, seeking to value and enable those who attend,
along with their 'family'.
What
goes on?

We have various activities, including:-
nPainting and Drawing
nArts and Crafts
nArtist in residence who works with patients utilising multi-media equipment as a tool for creative expression.
nHorticultural Activities
nWe also have a younger persons' day.
Medical
Assesment
Specialist
palliative care medical needs are assessed on the
first visit, by the doctor and nurse. The assigned
nurse will plan and evaluate patients' care continually.
If a doctor is required on subsequent visits this
can be arranged.
Physiotherapy
and Occupational Therapy
A physiotherapist and occupational therapist will
work with patients to maximise their independence.
Family
Support Team
A
team of counsellors are available for patients and
their families.
Complementary
Therapies
Aromatherapy and Massage
Reflexology
Homeopathic consultation and treatment
Mudita and Reiki - which are forms of relaxation and
support.
Hairdressing
We
offer hairdressing one morning a week.
Manicure
We
have manicure and hand massage from trained staff.
Lunch
Lunch
is a three-course meal with various options, cooked
in-house.
There is also tea and cake prior to going home.
Blood
Transfusions and Pamidronate Treatments
We are open on Thursdays, when the medical treatments
of blood transfusions and intravenous Pamidronate
can be arranged through the same referral system.
How can patients be referred to
the Day Therapy Centre?
Usually,
by their community nurse specialist or a palliative
care team such as Macmillan nurses from the local
hospital, also by G.Ps and District nurses.
When
is it open?
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10.30 - 3.30 p.m.
Transport
If there are difficulties with transport then this
can be arranged with either a volunteer driver or
local hospital transport.
The Day Therapy Centre staff are committed to providing
the best possible care, with the support of a multi-disciplinary
team of nurses, doctors, occupational therapists,
physiotherapists, counsellors, artists, complementary
therapists and a host of volunteers.
