There are many options open to people offering their services to work in the Hospice. Basically these fall into two categories, working directly with patients and families or working with members of staff in support services. Support services include working in the various offices where you may be involved in fundraising, education, finance, information technology, secretarial, building maintenance, administration, gardening, driving, or domestic services and catering.

Some volunteers are able to use their skills acquired in connection with their chosen careers whilst others elect to follow a totally different path. Whatever the choice we will make sure you are well prepared for your work by offering an induction programme and continual support and training.

Here are a few of the options available:

Homecare
Sitting in the patient's home thus relieving the carer.

Reception
Staffing the front desk for four hours shifts between 8.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.

Car Drivers
Ferrying mobile patients to and from the Hospice.

Gardening in the Hospice garden
Entirely staffed by volunteers under the management of a volunteer to give pleasure to the patients.

Offices
You might be counting money, desk top publishing or data entry, or providing secretarial support. Could involve varying levels of IT skills.

Day Therapy Centre
Helping to look after patients who come to spend the day at the Hospice, or providing support for one of the complementary therapies provided at the Centre.

Coffee Bar
Offering refreshments to visitors and taking the trolley round the In-patient Unit

Complementary therapies

Occupational therapies

Ensuring the flower displays around the Hospice are always fresh and attractive

Maintenance
