Lymphoedema practitioners should be well informed regarding the wide range of garment styles, sizes and lengths in various materials to suit the needs of individual patients and reflect the varied nature of chronic oedema.
Hosiery is worn when swelling has developed:
- To offer a resistance for muscle pump action.
- To encourage fluid to drain to the root of the limb.
- To prevent the re-accumulation of fluid in a treated limb.
- Hosiery should be comfortable to wear aiding concordance with treatment plans.
