Music Therapy will form an integral part of the creative therapies work at the Hospice. Music Therapy sessions will take part in a sound-proofed room in the Day Therapy Centre, and patients will be guided by a trained Music Therapist. Each patient will have the opportunity to choose how to use music as part of their therapeutic well-being. The instruments used in the therapy sessions are easy to play and produce a wide variety of sound and patients will not need to have natural music ability to enjoy the sessions.
Music Therapy is particularly beneficial to those with Parkinson's disease but there are many other benefits to patients generally, which include: an opportunity to socialise with others and share experiences; helping them to relax, alleviating anxiety, agitation and possibly insomnia; reducing the perception of physical pain; helping to relieve depression and generally helping to uplift the patient's mood.
