Bereavement Support

Bereavement Counselling Service

Free counselling is available to carers and other family members whose relative was under the care of Hospice in the Weald.  Some people request support soon after they have been bereaved; others may find the need for support months or even years later.

Bereavement can be distressing and traumatic.  It can be difficult to share painful thoughts and feelings with loved-ones or close friends, particularly if those in whom they would normally confide are also affected by the loss.   Counselling can provide a space for the bereaved person to explore the emotions and experiences that result from the death of a loved one.

Hospice in the Weald has a team of experienced counsellors, all of whom have undergone extensive and ongoing training and supervision.  The Bereavement Counselling Service works closely with the Family Support Team, who also may continue to work with a relative or family after their bereavement.

The length of time that an individual may continue to see a counsellor varies considerably.  Sometimes a brief period is sufficient; other times, longer-term work is more appropriate.  Clients are seen either in their homes or at Hospice in the Weald.  Bereavement counselling is available to both adults and children.

The Hospice Family Support Team provides a specialist support to our schools and colleges, to help students and teaching staff cope with bereavement and loss.

Our Bereavement Service provides individual and group counselling support for those for whom this may be helpful.  Our bereavement counsellors are professionally selected, trained and supervised. The Hospice provides booklets for guidance in coping with bereavement concerning adults, children and adolescents.
