Family Support and Counselling
Family Support and Counselling offers patients and their families the opportunity to talk about any difficulties they face whilst coping with a life-limiting illness. Difficulties may involve relationships, communication and other emotional issues.
Our team of qualified and experienced counsellors are part of the Hospice multi-disciplinary team. They are professionally accredited and led by a qualified psychologist. Counselling and Family Support is provided in the Community, Day Therapy, In-Patient Unit and in local community and acute hospitals. It is available for individuals, couples, and families - including children.
What does Family Support and Counselling involve?
Counsellors offer patients and family members confidential, one-to-one meetings to explore difficult thoughts and feelings. It is available for couples and families to talk and gain support from each other, and also for families to discuss important issues and reach decisions together.
Referrals to the Family Support team are made via the patient's GP, District Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist. Counselling either takes place in a private room at the Hospice, or within your own home. No charge is made for this service.
