Spiritual Care
Spiritual and Pastoral Care is an important part of the holistic care that we offer to patients and their families. Some of the primary concerns of a patient or their families can be questions related to a sense of meaning, purpose and hopes for the future when faced with illness. Some people may have a religious faith to support them, while for others questions of faith and belief feel more difficult and complex.
The Chaplain, Revd Liza Waller, is available for all Hospice patients and their families and friends, of any faith or none, either within the Hospice or, by arrangement at home, to discuss anything of concern. She is supported by a chaplaincy team of volunteers who mainly work in Day Therapy, and can arrange a visit by a leader from a patient’s own church or religious tradition as requested.
The Quiet Room and Peace Garden, atHospice in the Weald is always open to patients and their visitors. It provides a beautiful space for quiet meditation or reflection, as well as the daily midday Christian services of prayer and Holy Communion. Three days a week there are lunchtime secular meditation sessions. There are candles that can be lit to remember someone, as well as a book to write in your thoughts, poems, prayers and reflections. Prayer books from different faith traditions are available. If you need anything that you cannot find in the Quiet Room or wish to contact the Chaplain about anything at all, please ring Liza on 01892 820548.
The Hospice in the Weald Chaplain is a member of the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains and works to its Standards and Code of Conduct.
