Nursing Care
Hospice in the Weald employs both registered nurses and healthcare assistants in order to meet patients’ needs at home and within the Hospice.
The Hospice in the Home Service brings together many Teams which make up our community service. Within this service there is the Community Clinical Nurse Specialist Team, these are all qualified Registered Nurses with many years of experience in palliative care. They have all undertaken additional studies to gain relevant post registration qualifications and either possess, or are working towards a Masters degree in Palliative Care Nursing. There is also a team of experienced Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants all of whom have received additional training in End of Life Care and Palliative Care to support them in this role.
The In Patient Unit has a large nursing team providing care 24 hours a day 365 days per year. Two thirds of the nursing staff are qualified Registered Nurses. Of these a third posses a post registration qualification at Certificate, Diploma, Degree or Masters level in either Palliative Care or a related topic such as Cancer Care. Nearly all the Healthcare Assistants have an NVQ qualification in Health and Social care and are experienced carers who receive regular in-house training in relation to their role.
Day Therapy is staffed by a small team of nurses and therapists. Two thirds of nurses are qualified and possess either a post registration qualification in palliative care up to and including Masters level or are working towards one. The Therapists are all highly experienced and qualified in their respective fields of Music Therapy, Complementary Therapy and Art. The supporting Health Care Assistants are also very experienced and have received regular in-house training in relation to their role.
The Lymphoedema Service is Nurse led and is run by two very experienced lymphoedema nurses supported by a staff nurse.
In addition to our established teams we are supported by a “bank” of experienced nurses. These nurses, along with our permanent staff have access to our comprehensive education programme.
