Help us reclaim Gift Aid
Make your donation to Hospice in the Weald worth even more – at no extra cost to you!
As a UK Taxpayer, Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your gift. It allows us to claim back from the taxman the tax you have already paid on the donation. This amounts to an extra 25p for every £1 you give.
You can give any amount, large or small, regular or one-off and we can reclaim the tax. Just send us a completed Gift Aid declaration form with your donation.
Common Questions
How do I know if my donations are eligible for Gift Aid?
You must be a UK taxpayer for your donation to qualify for Gift Aid. This can either be Income or Capital Gains Tax, but you must have paid enough in the tax year that you make the donation to at least cover the amount that the charity will claim (25p per £1).
If you pay a higher rate of income tax, either at 40% or 50%, you can claim the difference yourself between the basic rate of tax reclaimed by the Hospice and your highest rate. You will need to do this via your self assessment tax return.
Why do I need to make a declaration?
The declaration gives Hospice in the Weald authority to reclaim tax on your donation from HM Revenue & Customs. By making the declaration you are confirming that you understand this and that you are a UK taxpayer.
Do I have to make a declaration with every donation?
No. A single declaration will cover all future donations to Hospice in the Weald. It will also cover any donations you may already have made to us in the previous four years.
I’ve already completed a Gift Aid declaration for another charity – do I have to complete another?
You can support as many UK charities as you like through Gift Aid so long as you make sure that you are paying enough tax to cover your total annual donations. You will need to complete a separate declaration form for each charity you donate to.
Will it affect my current tax liability?
No. The Hospice will claim the tax you’ve already paid from HM Revenue & Customs. It will not affect the tax that you pay.
Does it commit me to giving more money?
No, it does not.
Can I Gift Aid everything that I give to the Hospice?
Gift Aid can be applied to donations of money and donations of goods to our shops.
Gift Aid cannot be applied to:
- Payments for goods or services, for example if you buy goods from one of our shops.
- Donations you have collected from other people. You can only apply Gift Aid to donations of your own money.
- Payments using Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) vouchers or CAF cards.
What happens if my circumstances change?
If for whatever reason you stop paying tax, you need to inform us of this change so that Gift Aid is not applied to any further gifts.
