The Walled Nursery, Hawkhurst
Thanks to a grant provided by TWBC and the hard work of its owners, The Walled Nursery, Hawkhurst has one of the most intact collection of Victorian glasshouses left in the UK. Based in the grounds of St Ronan’s School it was once part of the estate owned by the OXO magnate Charles Gunther and is now a working nursery renowned for its hanging baskets and bedding plants.
For one weekend in May this hidden gem is transformed from a plant centre into a Gallery of Art and Crafts. “We hang the pictures throughout the main glasshouse and there is a marquee on the lawn for the crafts. Tea and yummy cakes are on sale to raise funds for Hospice in the Weald.
It makes a lovely day out – beautiful buildings, appealing art, captivating craft, fabulous flowers and tempting teas! What more could you ask…….. well wonderful weather I suppose!”
Thankyou to everyone who exhibited and came to Gallery in the Glasshouse 2011 - we had fantastic weather (especially on the Saturday) and record sales. The Hospice in the Weald Friends Group raised £936.80 from selling tea and cakes - they were delicious!
