Professional Placements
The Hospice provides placements for healthcare professionals undertaking training leading to registration in their discipline, and visits for qualified healthcare professionals who want to gain insight about how we deliver our services and provide specialist palliative care. We also provide a limited number of placements for work experience across our service areas.
Professional Placements
We provide clinical placements for pre-registration students of nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy studying at a number of Universities in the UK. We provide Return to Practice placements for nurses studying at Brighton University and training days for medical students at St Georges Medical School who come to us to study palliative care. We also accept requests for visits to our services from health care professionals. Work Experience Placements
We offer a block placement week to students in schools and colleges who are planning to undertake a career in health or social care (available to students in year 13 or equivalent).
We can provide one week placements in our Retail Department to school or college students (in year 13 or equivalent) studying business studies or economics, or who are considering a career in retail, finance, administration, marketing, product design or management.

Requests for Placements
All requests for pre-registration student clinical placements should be sent via Email to education@hospiceintheweald.org.uk The request will then be discussed with the relevant Service Lead and a placement plan agreed. There will be times when requests for placements cannot be accommodated due to staffing levels or when the number of requests exceeds capacity to place.
The Hospice provides an agreed number of day placements per annum for medical students undertaking a palliative care study module at St Georges Medical School. Click on Medical Students Programme, Medical Student Placement Information, and the Professional Visitor Evaluation Form
Requests for one or a half day visit to the Service by healthcare professionals to gain insight into palliative care should be negotiated with the Service Lead for the Department. The Education, Learning and Development Centre must be informed of any visitor requests as the Centre holds the visitor data base and will need to agree the visit date and time and enter the information on the visitor database.
